Die Republik Österreich beharrt auf einer gerichtlichen Klarstellung, daß fünf Klimt-Bilder in der Österreichischen Galerie nicht "stolen by Austria" sind - wie es in Kalifornien der Anwalt Randol Schoenberg behauptet.

Erst mit einem rechtskräftigen Urteil wird die vom kalifornischen Anwalt Randol Schoenberg in Los Angeles eingeklagte Feststellung des Eigentums an fünf Klimt-Bildern abzuschließen sein, die die 1925 verstorbene Industriellen-Gattin Adele Bloch-Bauer in ihrem Testament der Österreichischen Galerie im Belvedere zugedacht hat - und die dort seit über fünfzig Jahren als Attraktion gezeigt werden. Unter dem Titel "Stolen by Austria" läßt Schoenberg eine PR-Kampagne im Internet laufen.

Österreich wird mit Schoenberg keine Vergleichsverhandlungen aufnehmen. Das teilte das Bildungsministerium auf Anfrage der "Presse" mit. Man empfinde es als Gebot der Fairneß, einer österreichischen Vertriebenen, wenn ihr Anspruch als ein rechtmäßiger erkannt wird, das Eigentum auch komplett zurückzugeben.

No Settlement In California Over Klimt Paintings

The Republic of Austria Continues to Insist on a Judicial Resolution, that Five Klimt Paintings in the Austrian Gallery are not "stolen by Austria" - as California attorney Randol Schoenberg claims.

Only with a final legal judgment will there be a conclusion of the lawsuit filed by California attorney Randol Schoenberg concerning the ownership of five Klimt paintings that the industrialist's wife Adele Bloch-Bauer intended for the Austrian Galerie's Belvedere museum - where they have been shown as attractions for over fifty years. Under the title "Stolen by Austria" Schoenberg is running a pr campaign on the Internet.

Austria will not enter into settlement discussions with Schoenberg. That was the response of the Education Ministry to questions by Die Presse. Fairness to an Austrian exile commands that the property be returned in its entirety, if her claim is accepted as legally correct."

Interestingly, Mr. Haider does not even mention the legal opinion of Prof. Rudolf Welser which flatly contradicts Austria's legal position.
